  • Can’t Afford Bail in Las Vegas? What Happens — and What You Can Actually Do

It’s 2 a.m. You just found out someone you love is in jail, and the bail is more money than you have. First: breathe. You do NOT need the full bail amount to get them out.

What happens if you do nothing

If nobody posts bail, your loved one sits in jail while the case drags on. At the first court appearance, a judge can lower the bail or release them without bail — but that’s a gamble, and meanwhile they’re missing work, missing their kids, and sitting in a cell.

The number is smaller than you think

You don’t pay the full bail. In Nevada, a bail bond costs 15% of the bail amount — set by the state, with no other fees. Bail set at $3,000? The bond is $450. A $2,000 DUI bail? $300. That’s the whole fee.

Can’t cover even that? Payment plans.

Most of my clients don’t pay the full fee up front. Qualified clients start with about 10% down and pay the rest on a plan. What makes you qualified is simple: a job with paystubs, living locally, a stable address. If you’re working and you’re local, we can almost always find a way.

Collateral — I get creative

If cash is tight, collateral can lower your down payment. I take Nevada car titles and other collateral that other bondsmen won’t bother with. And to be clear: collateral is just security. I don’t want your car — I want your person home. When the case is done, your collateral comes back to you.

Someone can cosign

A family member or friend who trusts the defendant can cosign and carry the plan. One honest warning: a cosigner is responsible for the full bond amount if the defendant skips court — so only cosign for someone you believe will show up.

One thing to know

The 15% fee is non-refundable — that’s how bonds work everywhere. If you happen to have the full bail amount in cash, you can post it directly with the court and get it back when the case ends. Most families can’t park that kind of money for months, which is exactly why bonds exist.

You don’t have to figure this out alone at 2 a.m. Call me at (702) 222-2245 — I answer 24/7, everything happens over the phone, and I’ll tell you straight whether I can help. No judgment. Everyone is capable of having a bad day.
